Why We Can’t Have Nice Things…and Why Sometimes, We Can

I was putting off Last Jedi spoiler talk because Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency didn't get renewed for a third season.

I'm truly going to miss this show. It was a rare case of a series that kept me completely guessing and constantly surprised in every episode.

Star Wars- At Last Jedi!

No spoilers in this review.

As surely as I’ll need to see the movie again in theaters, it’s going to take me more than one post to get talking about it out of my system.

The coolest part about Star Wars: The Last Jedi was that it appealed equally to my inner seven year old that remembers seeing the original back in 1977, and the adult who understands story, character and consequences today.

2017 Holiday Parade Festivities

Welcome to the 2017 Psycho Pirate’s “I Wish I Was in Jeff’s Village” Action Figure and Hess Truck Extravaganza! Coming to you Live (ish) from Anabelle’s Really Cool Traditional Christmas Village; hosted by yours truly, Anabelle McGinley.

[Note from Jeff- For the full effect, imagine Anabelle reading her composition in a, and I quote, "schnazzy announcer voice."  Back to you kiddo.]

Now as I’m sure you know, this year’s “Jeff’s G.I. Joe Village” brought the Justice League and their DC buddies to the plateau. However, not all the heroes (or villains) made the cut. So the second, now annual, Christmas Parade is centered around the DCU characters tragically declined a moment in the sun. I tried desperately to get my father to allow them to join, but to no avail.

Christmas Village 2017

A Real Truth, Justice and American Hero
or
A Ruthless, Superstitious and Cowardly Terrorist Lot

Last year, with the help of the crew of the USS Enterprise, and mythological creatures from the Omicron Delta System (The famous Shore Leave Planet), the Joes looked to be heading for an easy victory.

Unfortunately, when the Federation team was summoned back through the wormhole, without Spock’s Vulcan telepathy and the unspecified powers of the Mule with a Hat in the loop  to control the robotic creatures, Cobra scientist Doctor Mindbender was able to modify Doctor Venom’s Brainwave Scanner to command the monsters, inflict heavy damage and sweep the G. I. Joe force off the plateau.  Disconnected from their home dimension’s power source the beasts eventually shut down, but not before leading to a staggering Cobra victory.  The terrorist forces were poised to deliver one final and crushing blow to the Joes.

In other news, I believe I am still over thinking reasons for why one group or the other is on top of the table each year.

Marvel Catch Up Again- More Thor and Punisher

First a few spoilery thoughts about Thor: Ragnarok.

Because as happy as  I was about DC lightening their films...Marvel is still doing it way better..

Return of the Return of the Caped Crusaders

I am embarrassingly far behind on superhero reviews, but this one can’t wait any longer.

Because its Adam West’s final appearance as Batman!

Bob-Bye

This is certainly a year for endings, isn’t it?

On October 20th, we went to the Towne Crier Cafe for the penultimate show of the Bobs Farewell Tour.  The final show was the following night and was streamed live online. Here’s hoping they release it as a disc or download, because this tour, like all of their live shows, was hysterically funny, and musically impressive.

Shin Godzilla Through a Kid’s Eyes

After watching all of the original twenty-eight plus Kaiju classics twice in six months, it wasn’t a huge deal to watch the new one over again to share it with my family only a week after it was the only movie I broke my Deep Space Nine-ing with

Here are the reactions:

Bad (Bad Geek Confessions) Geek Confessions- More Star Trek

With a new season of Ash vs. Evil Dead on disc and the combining of all the Netflix Marvel Heroes in The Defenders being released, I should be writing about one or both of them by now…

But I’m not because I haven’t started watching either yet.

I’ve become addicted to Deep Space Nine and there’s no way I could stop during the final two seasons to watch something else.

Shin Godzilla

The classic Toho logo and roar starts this reminder of who will always make better Kaiju films than we do, even when they level the playing field by starting all over again.

Disney 2016 Planning Part 1

It may have come across previously that I take my job as the Where Will We Go Next Guy seriously, or perhaps obsessively.
My daughter encourages this by actions such as her white board decoration above.

Some may ask how I could possibly start planning for a Disney World trip three years, one month and twenty-two days before arrival.

The answer is simple:
Three years, one month and twenty-three days before arrival, I was far too busy enjoying being in Disney World to plan for the next visit.

Wrong Season Review

I am woefully behind on movie viewing this summer, thanks to an incredible journey to Peru featuring epic mountains, mysterious ruins, amazingly friendly locals, and of course, horrifying clowns on public transportation.  All I've seen is Valerian and the Ten Thousand Planets.   I had to see that one in theaters because I knew a Luc Besson helmed French science fiction film based on groovy Sixties comics would be wild, original, visually stunning, freaky awesome, and die at the box office when presented to audiences who complain about everything being remakes and sequels and then ignore any cool, different stuff.

This is a sin.

Speaking of sin...
