Books to Open Your Mind- Frog and Toad

As a kid I had Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobell, and took his three other books in the series out of the grammar school library frequently. 

The set is one of the most frequent gifts I give to people when they have a baby. 

And reading them were featured performances of my doing voices when my daughter was little.

That's a remarkable string of happenings considering how much I dislike the animals the main characters are based on. 

There must be something special about these books. 

Personal Experiences With A Carlin Home Companion

Likely for the same reason as many of his fans, I read the book by George Carlin's daughter, Kelly, to learn more about him. A Carlin Home Companion did provide a great deal of insight into her father, but provided much more about the amazing person Kelly Carlin is and where her life's journey's have taken her. 

Bad Geek Confessions: Dune

I finally got around to seeing the new Dune film on blu-ray because I am a casual fan of the franchise.

This is what makes me a bad geek.

It's not often that someone with as little reach as I have can start a book review with, "I was talking to the author, " but the future is a weird place, and Twitter allows that kind of thing to happen far more easily than back in my youth. (Or "the stone age" as my daughter calls it.)

It’s pretty telling about the quality of Marvel superhero films that an opening night viewing of a character I don’t follow in the comics at all was a “must see” event for my daughter and I.

Take Batman, James Bond, Mortal Kombat, and The Lion King, stir in a generous helping of excellent writing, great acting, stellar visuals and general awesome- then put the whole thing in a blender, set it on Kirby, and you’ve got Black Panther.

Air Line Travails

While Anabelle was stuck home suffering from the plague that passed through our family early in the summer before the Central Park trip, she started marathoning Chopped.

Positive side effects included her, and all of us, increasing our interest and knowledge of cooking, leading to tastier experiments from everyone in our home.

Negative side effects included letting her stay up too late, and pausing on final packing for Rosa and Abuelita’s trip to Peru  to see how the heck they were going to work duck bills into a recipe.

Two Ungawas Way Up!

We interrupt and delay the X-reviews (yet again) to point out a recent release in a franchise that FINALLY is going deeply into the source material after a mere hundred and four years and needs as much love as it can get.

More importantly, The Legend of Tarzan does something we haven’t seen in a Tarzan film in a long while. 
It remembers everyone knows who Tarzan is.
