A Rare Opportunity

It isn't often that I get such a perfect chance to quote MuppetVision 3D.

Another engineer approached me with someone else from my company.
They said that they needed to find someone who looked like they knew what they were doing.

My immediate reply was:
"Unfortunately, none of them showed up."

What followed was several days of ill fitting scrubs, multiple walks down the same hallway, pretending to use a computer while not messing up what was actually on the computer,  learning you can put on a stethoscope backward, and trying to keep a gnarly thumb injury hidden from the camera. (I felt like Scotty.)

Everyone involved in performing were fellow office workers, not actors. We were shown scripts but since we had no speaking to do, it was mostly based on us watching the animatic and then following directions.

Sadly, providing them the information that I am a juggler and own my own gorilla suit did not spark any creative decisions.

I have an even higher level of respect for various participants in the film industry than my previous elevated levels.

For actors- even with no dialogue the innumerable amount of times we walked down that hallway to get it to look right was staggering.

For directors and their assistants- keeping the big picture in their heads along with all the little and subtle bits that make each scene work.

And for editors- The team did a phenomenal job assembling what appears to be real world situations out of our multiple attempts to not look confused.

My guess is the blooper reel is hilarious.

Many thanx. If you saw how many times I screwed up "walk down the hall" or "use the mouse" however, the "second career" talk would be less enthusiastic.
