Welcome
to the George Awards for profanity in movies that paid tribute to an original
George Award Winner.
Yes,this year has some fucking issues.
John
Carpenter’s The Thing got him part of
his Hat Trick award in the first round of George Awards. Later on, the film won itself a special citation, for the many other awesome uses of profanity. One of those inspired the creation of the award, then I forgot to list it.

Now the 1982 horror classic moves into legendary status. As the
swear (and the film itself) have be given homage, not once, but twice in other
features.
I
suppose it is probably is no coincidence that both movies are directed by the same
man- Michael Dougherty.
After
working as a writer on Superhero films (among other places) for X2 and Superman Returns, his directorial debut came on a fun,
non-linear, anthology horror film that has a heck of a lot of entertainment of the
sick and twisted variety. Plus it lends itself easily to multiple viewings to put
all the puzzle pieces together.
Trick ‘R Treat was supposed to come
out in theaters in 2007, but the studio chickened out, and it eventually got a
bare bones DVD home release two years later.
Strange folks like myself found it (thought I had to be pointed to it by
a fellow horror fan friend at work, Linda) and it became a cult classic, with
an extra laden Blu Ray two years ago.
In
the film, the crotchety old man with one of many checkered hidden pasts in
these stories is played by Brian Cox.
His character of Mr. Kreeg was designed to resemble John Carpenter.
Little
Sam, who has become a horror icon by now, attacks him furiously in his
home. At one point, Kreeg chops off
Sam’s hand and appears to stop him, but when the spirit of Samhain and his hand keeps coming, that famous
line from The Thing is expertly
delivered.
“You’ve gotta be
fuckin’ kidding!”
The
other use by this director of this classic horror four letter exclamation is
also the first Godzilla film F-Bomb. If
that doesn't deserve an award, then I don’t know what does anymore.
While
it may seem more obvious, especially to my daughter that antarctic “Outpost 32” in the insanely awesome Godzilla King of Monsters was named because Ghidorah has three heads and two tails,
that is not the intended case.
Instead
it was named as the “replacement” for “Outpost 31” from The Thing.
Therefore
it is a very fitting location and a very fitting reaction for Barnes, played by
O’Shea Jackson Jr., to use in documenting the rise of the three headed, two tailed, golden space dragon from hell.
Now
I definitely need to see Krampus to
see if it’s in all his films.
