Hi friends Anabelle here, kind of a plot twist if you’re an avid “kid’s eyes” reader, but it’s my dad’s birthday so bear with me. Father - thank you for shifting your posts around so this “present” can go up on your birthday, and happy birthday!!! 

Ahem. 

Practically since I emerged from the womb, I had no interest in Daredevil. At all. Yes, he’s one of my dad’s favorite superheroes. Yes, dad has been pushing for me to watch the show or at least appreciate the poor man for years. But seriously… 

Have you SEEN those little horns?!?!?! They’re SO ugly. I could not take this man seriously throughout my whole upbringing, and as such I had no desire to delve into any media he was a part of.

But then…

Mr. Matthew Murdock himself graced the big screen in Spider-Man No Way Home. And dare I say it, he seemed… cool? This could not be. Could it?

I proceeded to put this intrusive thought behind me, deciding it was a momentary lapse in judgment and that I could continue to make fun of pointy horn man. Winter break passed, and this succeeded. Sadly, upon my return to school, I needed something to watch. This was when the Netflix Algorithm went on a mission.

Daredevil popped up at the top of my recommendations almost every day. I had a brief reprieve when I binged Victoria on Amazon Prime (Clara!), but other than that was greeted with a “WATCH DAREDEVIL RIGHT NOW” on quite the regular basis. 

I held back. Surely I would not give in, right? 

Wrong. I got sick of it popping up, decided “screw it, I’ll start one and turn it off if it bores me. Which it will.”

That night I watched the first 3 episodes. And proceeded to continue on until I finished the show.

 

I…like…Daredevil. (Phew that was tough). As I watched those 3 episodes, I decided it would be hilarious if I surprised my own father and kept my Daredevil-liking identity crisis a secret. Since I couldn’t share my thoughts with him as I watched, the idea for this “birthday present” was born. Here are my general comments/reactions for the Daredevil series (and Defenders also because I have read you *have* to watch it before season 3…surprise!) - you’re welcome :)

 

PSA - this isn’t entirely in time order, it’s kind of grouped together by subject and then by time

 

Season1

• I believe the first thing that ran through my mind was “Oh no he’s going to go blind!! Anabelle. you absolute buffoon. Of course he is.”
• This man is actually so cool please send help I LIKE him (I don’t know who I am anymore)
• Karen is fine, Foggy is funny, and Claire is AMAZING
• Claire deserves the whole world for the crap she put up with she’s a queen
• Can Charlie Cox read audiobooks with his American accent I like the way he talks it’s so dramatic (especially the way he says Foggy)
• His Spanish is dramatic too I love it
• Avocados ;)
• Speaking of Spanish, shout-out to the bottle of Inca Kola in Elena’s apartment :)
• Considering all I really knew about Kingpin, even after Hawkeye, was that I occasionally dress him up as Santa, it was cool seeing him actually do things. He is terrifying though, wowzers
• The way I was peacefully doing my Moliére reading while he beat his father to a pulp :D
• Dear Matt Murdock, what kind of a psychopath drinks LATTES without sugar. tsk tsk tsk. 
• Dang I should have asked Villanova if I could have watched this instead of taking theology. This is much more interesting.
• Every time they talk about this “mysterious masked man” around Matt his ominous chuckle is so funny to me. 
• Note: My father then texted me about Beat Bobby Flay and I realized this chuckle is the EXACT SAME as when the judges compliment “dish A” and it’s obvious it’s Bobby’s because he looks too proud of it. Do with that what you will. 
• Episode 10 emotionally destroyed me. I'm too invested in this to feel this way. Think of the horns Anabelle, think. of. the. horns.
• I am crying. Over daredevil. The horns aren’t enough anymore. I have to start thinking about the yellow suit.
• I liked Ben :(
• Melvin is an absolute bro I like him
• THE HORNS HAVE ARRIVED…this suit design is a *choice*
• Still the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen (the suit. NOT him. Believe me.)
• “I thought it was a bit goofy at first, but it grows on you” … me too Karen, me too.
• “I don’t know I think the horns are a bit much” - Foggy Nelson… I’m just gonna leave that here
• Oh dear God…the end shot with him in the suit…it was…cool. 
• Who am I?

 

Season2

• The Irish jig after a bunch of people got brutally shot to smithereens was a VIOLATION
• OMG wait isn’t the Punisher in this show? I think it was him… I WAS RIGHT!
• AHH IS MATT GONNA HAVE A THING WITH KAREN I don't know how to feel about that
• UPDATE (of course it was raining) but I no longer care what happens between them because that was the most romantic rain kissing scene I have ever seen like WOW okay my romance loving self is having a nervous breakdown. 
• PSA I am aware that Daredevil is a complicated little man so they probaHOLY SH%# THATS ELEKTRA (that was written in real time)
• Foggy is an icon. That is all.
• Punisher is SCARY! Dear Jesus I am trying to plan for Disney here
• I feel so bad for him tho :(
• Matthew Murdock is the best flirt I have ever seen I feel like I’m intruding every time he opens his mouth
• the BOXING RING SCENE?! UNCALLED FOR. I’m going to BED. 
• I do not like Elektra. This woman makes my blood. boil.
• Although I will say, “You can’t mask that ass,” was funny
• Matthew is LATE TO THE TRIAL. I hope Foggy slaps him. And Elektra. This is her fault.
• Ugh not Kingpin again
• I am so confused. All I know is Matt’s life is falling apart, but like what else is new?
• Matthew Murdock is the coolest person ever. I do not care about Daredevil, this Vanessa speech is the most iconic thing that has ever happened. (I've accepted I’m going crazy)
• When you’re getting relationship advice from the Punisher <3 we love to see it
• I honestly don’t have many comments about the whole ending part I was too caught up in what was happening :D
• I will say it’s really dark (like hard to see dark but obviously the other kind also)
• EXCUSE. ME. MATTHEW. Wherever you run I run WITH YOU???? BOOOOOOO
• WAIT SHE DIED. ok lowkey I feel bad for hating her now but oh well
• Karennnn a reporting queen
• IS HE GONNA TELL HER OMG AAHHHHADKSJDKFKSDJKSLJKDJFL WHAT

 

The Defenders

• This theme song is not as much of a bop but the background music is catchy
• Iron Fist’s…Iron Fist…looks dumb… I do not like him
• Oh good heavens is that Elektra? (She must not be dead so I can hate her again)
• Jessica Jones!!!! I hope I like her
• Matthew Murdock said my birthdayyyyyy (no use fighting the enjoyment now ;-;)
• Matt >>> Daredevil
• Someone should make a compilation of Matt sassily placing his hand on his hip
• SIGOURNEY WEAVER
• Claireee i love her - CLAIRE AND LUKE ARE DOING THE DEED WHAT EW 
• That is the most ugly shade of yellow I have ever seen
• When Matt is rumored to be in the Echo show and you want to ask your dad about it but you have to be careful to not tell him Defenders is currently playing on your computer
• (this show is lowkey boring I don’t give a hoot about Luke, only like 5 hoots about Jessica, and  minus 83 hoots about Danny I'm just here for Matt [I plead insanity])
• “There, I learned how to sUmMoN mY cHi” whatever u say Daniel
• “I’ll punch you so hard you’ll see,” HAHA Jessica is funny
• “The scarf looked better. Nice ears.” PLEASEEE

SeasonThree

• Nooooo not him having issues with God -  we love this priest
• Someone please allow me to give this man a HUG

• “If he was alive, he would have reached out to us.” Foggy. Are you sure about that? You know how angsty this man is.
• I keep forgetting about Marci and then she shows up
• Ok she’s a supportive queen I love her now absolutely vote Foggy for DA 
• Normal people: a smaller version of yourself as the devil over your shoulder - Matt Murdock: Wilson Fisk <3
• Poindexter is the dumbest name ever
• Wait, the hat… is he Bullseye???
• The Bullseye in his eyes at the end is giving me a resounding yes
• Would I want to be part of Matt’s close inner circle? Probably not! He’s highkey kind of an a-hole. But do I appreciate him from afar? Yes <3
• Matt messing with Foggy’s life yet again (no context you can choose your own)
• I feel bad for Nadeem because he’s just trying to help his family (who are icons) but like he’s so irritating
• Not Fisk incriminating Matthew we hate to see it 
• He is awful but on the other hand that omelet looks absolutely bussin
• FOGGY AND MARCI NOW IS NOT THE TIME 
• Dex just bleated like a goat in a cafe…

• So…Fisk is getting married (love that for him I guess) and Dex is… frolicking around in the Daredevil suit with a corpse
• Vanessa’s dress is an atrocity
• He didn’t kill Wilson!! Yayyy – that speech was really something tho, dang
• I don’t think I ever mentioned how absolutely beautiful this church is 
• Also love that he’s bonding with Maggie
• “And way more stable than Jessica Jones” BAHAHAHA
• My babies all together again :’)
