The Great DC and Marvel Index

Fifteen years ago tomorrow, I started the process of screaming into the void that is this blog.
Thank you to those who have kept it from being a completely empty void.

Due to the obsession my brain chose to focus on starting a little over a year ago (and continuing for another couple of months), I completely missed the fact that was coming up until very recently.

Therefore, to celebrate, I shall accomplish a housecleaning task I have been meaning to do for literal years, but never got the energy to actually do it.

Here is the index of references to DC and Marvel comics, movies, TV shows and random thoughts that have taken over my head during the past decade and a half, and presumably going forward.

Note for those thinking I have shown some resistance to laziness by not taking two weeks off of writing off by making a separate index for each...
I have to put a link for this index into all of those posts listed, meaning it will be much easier to accomplish with a single index than having to sort two individually.

"Start" means the first of a series of linked posts. "Index" means (now let's not always see the same hands) and Index of posts.

Marvel characters will be in straight alphabetical order. DC will, naturally, be first, and also be in alphabetical order... after the big three of course, and Green Lanterns because I can't seem to shut up about them.

N-joy!!!!!

Is It Possible We Do Too Much?

 Naaaaaah.
Of course not.
Disney isn't simply a vacation for us, it is a way of life.

Favorite Movie of Every Year I've Been Alive

I thought this would be a cool celebration of my 1200th post!
And it is!
Because I still can't read a calendar.
It was very nearly a cool celebration of my 1199th post.

Anabelle deserves thanx for helping me with this in two ways.
1) She'd ask what film I put for a year or if I included a specific movie and I'd forget what I said, making me look up the year again and finding films I missed.
2) She reminded me I could adjust publish dates after I set them up, meaning after an incredibly late night of shifting post times and cross references this one IS for #1200!

Background- People on a Facebook movie group were listing
"My favorite movie that came out each year I was alive."

It took me much longer to do this than most of the younger folks in the group.
With that kind of time investment, I get to put it here.

Amazing Spider-Man films through a Kid's Eyes

Hey, I forgot to mention that the last post was the 11th anniversary of the blog!

Let's celebrate with a throwback to  "Kid's Eyes" since those are getting harder to do, for location and chronological reasons.

Therefore when the franchise rebooted in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-Man, she never got around to seeing them.

TEN YEAR BLOG ANNIVERSARY, Finally -"We're Gonna Turn It On"

When I initially decided to write a blog, (with much pushing and prodding from friends and family, likely so I'd stop asking them all directly to read my stuff) my very first idea for a new material post was to highlight how much the TV series The Electric Company meant to me as a kid, how it stayed with me over he years and remained enjoyable in my memory and on subsequent youtube and DVD revisits.

This blog started TEN YEARS AGO (in a couple of days, before the next post goes up anyway) and I have consistently, unfailingly,  kept up with two posts a week- every Monday and Thursday- like clockwork...

Assuming a clock running on bad puns and obscure pop culture references, naturally.

None of those 1046 posts, however, have focused on The Electric Company.

I have always been better at dependability than control of my creative output.

Moving Up a Level

It’s been seven years since I started this exercise in writing ridiculousness, and for the past four, I’ve used this time of year to heap piles of compliments on Danceworks at the end of Moving Company season.

Why stop a good thing?

Learning What's Important From Our Children

From the early days of this blog, I have been internally debating whether or not to put ads on the site to try to make some revenue out of this hobby.

If only to balance the lack of sleep it is responsible for.

More recently, I've seen the use of paypal "tip jars" and started to lean that way as well.

However, readers who are paying a bit of attention (and with my subject matter selections, that isn't something I can always count on) will notice a new link in the upper right hand corner that isn't either of those things.

I was inspired by my daughter's Silver Award project for Girl Scouts, which reminded me that I knew some far more important things than tip jars to encourage people to donate money (and time) to.

Anabelle and Daddy Ad-veeeeen-tures! Yeah! *Jazz Hands* Day 4 -July 22

Highly Zoological

With today being the official Sixth Anniversary of this blog, a detailed account of the Bronx Zoo is fitting.

The goal of the Anabelle and Daddy Adveeeeeen-tuuuures! Yeah! *Jazz Hands* was for my daughter and I to share time on our own. Yet the trip to the Bronx Zoo occurred with my sister, her kids and my Mom as well.

There is a perfectly sensible reason for this.

Still Animated About Star Wars

Click here for the start of the Star Wars Cartoon Ramblings
Here for the Spoiler free review of The Force Awakens that was responsible for it
(Or Here, here or here for spoilers)

Back to the Clone Wars animated series, already in progress.

Most of the Jedi and other characters only hinted at in the films got moments in the spotlight to prove they were as interesting as their glimpses made them appear.

But Anakin Skywalker got the most impressive upgrade.

Short Treks- To Boldly Stop

I originally intended to keep going after the original cast movies, to review their guest appearances and the hand off to the reboot films.

I also intended this whole Short Treks excursion to be well under a dozen posts and nowhere near sixty-seven-thousand words and taking an close to an entire year on the blog.   Boy, if I had half a brain I would have started later and used it for the 50th Anniversary year, which is only three months away now.

However, we’ve pretty well established I’ve got issues when it comes to letting my fandom run away with my writing plans, or planning in general.

Respected, Selected, Call Collected

No matter how the official start is counted, I just passed the four year mark for blogging.

Woo!

To celebrate this occasion, as is common in other four year intervals, there’s going to be a Dog Food For Chairs election.

Twittering About

I've been doing this blogging thing for three years, and it is about time I've done some work on my "platform."
Twitter is now an established and powerful form of social media. Knowledge of how to use it is completely vital to anyone wishing to create and maintain an online profile and base.  While I understand all of these concepts, I’m still terrible at implementing them.

In fact, it has taken me more than 140 characters to explain why I have issues with Twitter.

Therefore I need to practice.

Apparently, snarkiness bordering on offensiveness is also expected, as well as the overuse of impenetrable hashtags.

In that spirit, here are some semi-rude comments concerning recent developments in the mountain states.

Joke Theory

I love a clever, well-constructed joke.  However, I don’t believe print is the proper media for the true art of joke telling. (Not counting the occasional commemorative exception of course.)  One of the reasons I started writing stories and e-mailing them about in the musty past of the pre blog era was the belief that I could create written material funnier than the poorly assembled jokes piling up in my inbox.

Wordsmithing is important to a joke.  Take this sort of example comparing the same gag used by Andrew Dice Clay, and George Carlin.

Bad Geek Confessions: Career Choice Importance

Passing another quantum level of aging, I feel the need to come clean about something.

I have not been totally honest about the reasons for entering my chosen profession.
In fact I have lied about it frequently.

When I went for my college interviews, I spun a story designed to impress, highlighting how the January 28 1986 Challenger Shuttle disaster shook me emotionally, and steered my interests in the direction of Aeronautical Engineering.

While the tragedy did shake me, this was a bald faced lie.
Though it isn’t the one I feel guilty about.

A twit by any other name...

I've decided to set up a Twitter account, for reasons that elude me at the moment.  If you'd like to follow this blog through that outlet, its feed will be updated with each new post here.

There should be a gadget to make this notification, but apparently it is broken. Just how a virtual gadget can
"break" is beyond my limited webby knowledge.

So here's a link for ya.

There won't be any actual Tweets other than the blog post ones. As you can see, it takes me more than a hundred and forty characters to state that it takes me more than a hundred and forty characters to state something.
