When I first sawGuardians of the GalaxyI said it proved Disney could make a good Star Wars movie. Rewatching The Last Jedi I realized, in the immortal words of Force Ghost Ben Kenobi,
The sequels draw me in more than the prequels do. I haven't seen them as much which may be part of it, but its also because they feel more atmospherically connected to "my" Star Wars, I think.
We watch a lot of Food Network in our house. It started back with Chopped marathons when we all had the plague after Memorial Day, the first summer without Up the Lake.
Anabelle has continued watching a huge variety of culinary shows.
This is as good a point as any to point out the awesomely insane subtitles on the special edition 2006 Star Wars DVDs that were the last opportunity to get the unedited, original forms of the Classic Trilogy. They spell out individual beeps, whistles, grunts, growls, words in alien languages, Chewie's Tarzan yell and Threepio's entire speech to the Ewoks to really add to the experience.
Disney Plus not only returned us to glorious old school style live action Star Wars with The Mandalorian, it allowed the crack creative team to end the excellent animated Clone Wars series properly with a final season.
I think one of the reasons this film is so highly regarded is that in 1980, it WAS the expanded universe. Star Wars blew everyone away, and we all wanted more. It wasn't like now where there are piles of books, films, shows, patterned underwear, etcetera to carry on the story. This was the first, deeper look into the world we'd been entranced by.
