Disney World 2022 Planning- Part 4

August 31, 2020
P minus 702
Anabelle’s online pin trading has been expanding further! The best part, just like the parks, is making new Instant Disney Friends and interactions with them.

Disney World updates their mask signs and announcements yet again. The actual policy hasn’t changed, but since people are selfish and stupid, Disney has to keep clarifying the obvious. That is, cancel out caveats that guests keep trying to make the masks useless.

Cinderella’s Royal table reopens. It’s not a true character meal under the conditions, but Cinderella still comes out for a brief wave at the diners. Even though there’s no way I could possibly be there, it makes me happy that it exists.

The Grand Floridian Orchestra, moved over to perform in the Beauty in the Beast theater in MGM, plays its last performance after thirty something years. These times really suck.

Disney officially lays off performers from MGM Streetmosphere, the Magic Kingdom Citizens of Main Street, and performers from Hoop De Doo Musical Revue, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo the Musical, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Jedi Training Academy, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, and the Green Army Men. These times continue to suck, but at least those folks can file for unemployment now.

One good thing out of all this mess. Pictures of the “Research Station” building that has reopened in the African walk through Safari in Animal Kingdom were released. Because of social distance spacing, it looks like they took out the Goliath Frog display from the middle of the room.
[Later edit- That wasn’t the reason. I feel so bad…
well, I feel kinda bad.
A little bit...
Not really at all.]

Crystal Palace reopens! With family style platters and no listed characters. (Maybe they’ll pop in and wave.) Still, it’s something. I wonder if buffets will EVER return to Disney World?
[Later edit- Yes, Character Meals will have them shortly after we return to the parks and then leave again.
Crystal Palace had a buffet before, but the characters came back after.]

Disney Magical Express ends when 2021 does. Man, the suckiness of 2020 keeps on giving.

January 15, 2021

Extra Magic Hours officially not coming back. “Early park entry” will only be for a ½ hour and there will be no night version. More “magic” removed. Up yours, plague.

Tom Sawyer Island reopens! Hey, it’s something.

Jeff’s Disney World Philosophy:
Wow, there are massively long empty spaces in this planning list.
Frankly because it’s far too depressing to detail each little change the plague brings.

Grandma does a bit of jiggery pokery with her finances for some home maintenance stuff, but also uses it as an excuse to say, “We’re definitely going,” after things calm down. Not exactly a light at the end of the tunnel, but at least we know the tunnel does end somewhere.

Honestly, I thought Pin Trading was kind of dopey when it started, but the fact that it has given Anabelle an online group of friends that talk about other things besides the pins has been a saving grace through this mess. It will be cool to see her as an experienced trader when we go back.
[Later edit- It was!]

Festival of the Lion King announced to return mid-May. It’s like as soon as Disney heard our family started thinking about theoretical-semi-concrete “next time” plans for next summer, they planned to bring it back. How nice of them.

The Lion King show is back, and you can remove masks for pictures, still, it’s a very different world.
[Later edit- The tumble monkeys and aerial birds parts weren’t back. I didn’t know this at the time.
I am glad I didn’t know this or I would have been very sad.]

Grandma is talking seriously about a trip next summer, we have no idea what the park will be like, and we have no idea what the kids’ schedules will be.
Therefore, I have no idea how to Grid this.

At the Memorial Day Commemorative Kentucky Fried Chicken meeting, Grandma says to use her credit card to build up points to go to Disney next summer.
She ain’t kidding now.

Tusker House reopens! The Characters are at a distance and the African inspired food is family style, but (once more) it’s something.

Fireworks are back in Disney World. We almost never watch them, and I clearly can’t see them now.
Yet, somehow this fills me with joy.

Not liking this vibe. In October, the parks will have special extended hours for guests in Disney Hotels. But ONLY those in Deluxe Resorts or Disney Villas. This deliberate prejudice against those of us who specifically pick value resorts because we ignore our health and sleep there at an absolute minimum is shocking. At least the early morning ones will be for us unwashed masses.
[Later edit- I guess it was okay, considering there’s a good chance that adding occasional late night Extra Magic on top of every morning Extra Magic Hour Half Hours would have killed us.]

But yay!!
They’re adding a Coco scene to FIimore’s Magic!!!! Yay!
[Later Edit- That deserved a bigger “yay” YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!]

Alas, it is the true end of an era. Immortal Happy Disney Stacey’s “Must Do Disney” videos are no longer shown on the resort channels. They had been moved to the former Spanish channel location for them, but now they are gone completely. We’ll have to bring something with YouTube access next time we go.
Is it really a Disney Trip if you don’t see Stacey?
[Later edit- Yes it is, but it is a partially bitter one.]

The EPCOT Monorail is reopening soon! Holy crap, I’m so lucky I didn’t know it was closed.
I don’t think I could have dealt with that level of grief.

Disneyland Paris has added paid FastPasses, 10-20 Euros per ride per day.
I am not happy about this direction. Not one bit.

August 20, 2021

It’s official, Genie Plus is paid FastPasses for Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
I cannot express just how much that sucks.
[Later edit- I am less happy about how it was implemented here, but we worked around not buying it well. Take that, Chapek, HA HA!
Later later edit- oops, that barb aged well.]
