WarningThis post contains bad, foul, filthy and unacceptable language - the words that “will curve your spine, grow hair on your hands and maybe, even bring us, God help us, peace without honor.”
This is not a post for children. Kids, take a hike.
This is also not a post for those adults who are offended by this type of language. Do yourself a favor, and go read some of my cute stuff before moral outrage can kick in.
Just about everything else on this blog is clean…Stupid sometimes, but clean.
End of Warning.
For the Tenth Anniversary George Awards for Profanity in film (and the slightly younger associated Dana Awards for Profanity in TV) I couldn't simply do some of my goofy lists.
This is partially to have some sense of occasion for this illustrious moment...
And mostly because I had no fuckin' idea what the hell to do for it.
However, this past year- a miracle in profanity occurred, providing the perfect single individual to be a recipient for the George/ Dana Decade Achievement Award.
It is time for these Awards to meet 54 year old Alex Ferns.
Over his time as an actor he's been in a dozen or so movies and about thirty television shows.
Before last year he was probably best known for his time as a villain in the long running British soap opera Eastenders.
Ferns played the role of the grizzled and (obviously since this is the early Batman days of Gotham City were talking about) corrupt police commissioner Pete Savage in Matt Reeves's The Batman. (In a fantastic throwback to the bad segues of my college radio days, his eventual replacement, James Gordon, was excellently played by Jeffrey Wright, who figured in last weeks Bond rant as Felix Leiter!)
When finding the masked vigilante at the crime scene of the first murder in the piece, he let the caped crusader know he was clearly not happy with his presence. Commissioner Savage aired his displeasure directly at Batman with:
He not only delivered the first F-Bomb in a live action Batman film, but fired it off directly at the Dark Knight himself!
Woo!
This would be a massively important George Award moment on its own, but what propels Mr. Ferns into "Decade Achievement" territory was his display on the "Dana" side of these celebrations slightly later that same year.
For you see, Alex Ferns appeared in the Star Wars series Andor in 2022 as well. In this series he played Sergeant Linus Mosk, basically the second in command to one of the main villains. Corporate Deputy Inspector and poster boy for the banal, controlling side of Fascism was his supervisor Syril Karn.
However, when what should have been a normal bit of jack booted thuggery met some heavy civilian resistance, Mosk is the one who remained calm and tried to keep his troops and superior under control. This occurred after he realized the severity of their situation which he did in this impressive manner:
Mosk- "Was that them?"
Soldier (radio)- "I don't know. I can't tell from here."
Mosk- "Well, who else could it be?"
Soldier (radio)- "But that would put them behind us."
Mosk (Grabs radio anxiously but not panicked)-
"Shit! We're under siege."
Yes! He showed his underlying unease by the first use of my personal favorite profanity, SHIT, in the entire Star Wars Franchise!!!
Therefore Mister Alex Ferns:
for your introduction of high level and wonderfully inappropriate profanity into two traditionally family focused franchises in a single year...
AND achieving it in two different mediums-
HOT SHIT AND CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!!!
on being the recipient of the The George/ Dana Decade Achievement Award.
Many happy fuckin' returns!!!!
