Warning
This is not a post for children. Kids, take a hike.
This post contains bad, foul, filthy and unacceptable language - the words that “will curve your spine, grow hair on your hands and maybe, even bring us, God help us, peace without honor.”
This is also not a post for those adults who are offended by this type of language. Do yourself a favor, and go read some of my cute stuff before moral outrage can kick in.Just about everything else on this blog is clean…Stupid sometimes, but clean.
End of Warning.
This year's George Awards for profanity in film continue with a look at some films in the latest phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
No, not the obvious one. That's next week.
There were a couple of excellent profane moments in a recent "Non R Rated" entry of the MCU.
But first, however, it is important to recognize the first, and until last summer ONLY, fuck in the Disney owned Marvel Movies.
Well, actually the first fuck in a marvel movie happened during that incredibly uncomfortable beach scene in The Eternals.
And from Marvel in general, there were previous moments, which in some cases were wildly room destroying fucks, over in the Netflix Defenders shows. (Looking at you Luke and Jessica.)
However, for the word "fuck"- that first popped up in 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three.
Its use was a perfectly natural expression of frustration by Starlord (Chris Pratt) and was thought up while filming when Nebula (Karen Gillian) was taking too long to figure out how to get into a car.
The story of it's inclusion, however, is what makes it award worthy.
James Gunn came up with it on set and went to ask Kevin Feige about it after it had been recorded.
Feige had no problem with it in the film, but questioned Gunn,
"Is that what you want to be known for?"
Gunn's reply was perfect-
"Have you met me?"
The DC films are in excellent hands.
There was another moment, that I enjoyed even more however. It came in the underrated and wild hoot of a film from the same year Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
First, because it's me, an honorable mention, and a shrewd peice of advice.
Just the fact that they included M.O.D.O.K. (Corey Stoll) on the big screen and made him just as terrifying and ridiculous as he can be in the comics was a bonus. Introducing Cassie (Kathryn Newton) in her Stinger outfit was awesome as well- being another step toward us getting the Young Avengers on screen.
After she smacked him down, she gave him some fantastic advice when he didn't know how to make up for past sins.
Cassie- "Darren, stop trying to be whatever this is."
M.O.D.O.K.- "I don't know what to be. Tell me what to be."
Cassie Lang- “I don't know, just don't be a dick!”
M.O.D.O.K.- “It's too late.”
Cassie- “It's never too late to stop
being a dick.”
Darren Cross- “My name is Darren, and I
am not a dick!”
However, my favorite swear in the whole film demonstrated skilled acting chops by being perfectly timed and annunciated by Michael Douglas as Doctor Hank Pym as he took in the sights of the Microverse's alien filled bar:
Come back next week for last year's HUGE expansion of Marvel Movie profanity.
