Dracula’s Daughter Through a “Kid’s” Eyes

Hey, Rosa picked this one!
Given the other new movies on the "haven't watched yet" pile, that isn't saying much...
But it's something!

It's just the two of us again, as it will most likely be for the remainder of this exercise.

I'd never seen this movie before. It's an immediate sequel to Dracula, yet half the cast, who were in the scene it starts directly following, are missing. That was a bit jarring.

In general it's an excellent one, and definitely in the upper tier for sequels. Bride of Frankenstein obviously tops it but I'm not sure if any of the others do, maybe Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, that one was solid and didn't feel as segmented as the other mash ups. It revisits some items from the original but has cool new stuff as well. Overall it is very atmospheric and creepy.

The same actor returns as Van Helsing, but he's credited and called "Von Helsing" for reasons unlikely to be made clear.  The subtitles (which were added much later) go with Van.

Van/Von opens the movie by telling the entire story of the last film to the police as an explanation of the corpses of Dracula and Renfield …
Unlike that last film, no one believes his crazy vampire talk, which is also jarring.

On the policeman guarding the abbey from the last movie:
Rosa- "Who’s he guarding?"
Me- "Dead bodies."
Rosa- *Ominously* "Ooooh!"
*they mention one of the bodies is missing*
Rosa- "There's a stake in Dracula’s heart. It must be the other guy."
*Spoilers- It wasn't*

On the mood setting howl in the distance:
Rosa- "That’s not Dracula. Is the Wolfman in this one?"
Me- "I'm so proud."

On creepy, Cesare looking Sandor urging Countess Zaleska to hurry because it's almost daylight:
Rosa- "Oh, she’s a vampire. She went out and bit somebody."
Me- "It is literally the name of the movie."
Rosa- "Shhhh. I'm watching."

On the Countess speaking of her craving, and having to meet it and face it:
Rosa- "Eat people!"

On a characters use of the word "righty-o:"
Rosa- "What?"
Me- "It means, yes, or lets do that. Felix the Cat used it a lot."
Rosa- "Whatever. Why not use spaghetti-o?"

On Sandor selecting a model come pose for her:
Rosa- "Don't worry, you’re just going to die."

On the Countess giving the model instructions:
*tells her to pull her straps down off her shoulders*
Rosa- "So I can bite you."
*tells her to stand by the fire*
Rosa- "So the blood flooooows,"

On the doctor's hypnosis machine:
Rosa- "What the hell is that?
It looks like those round things with addresses"
Me - "A rolodex?"
Rosa- "That's it."

On pretty much any scene with the Countess trying to overcome her addiction:
Rosa- "Tasty blood!"

On the cast guessing who's responsible for the vampire like deaths after they've met and even visited the Countess numerous times:
Rosa- "How he figured it out, well never know."

On the actor playing Sandor being a bit over excited for his death scene:
Rosa- "He was on the floor almost before the other guy fired the gun."

On them commenting the Countess is dead because the wooden arrow pierced her heart:
Me- "I believe that’s her spleen."
